Rand Paul’s False Claims on Abortion Don’t Match His Previous Statements


Florence, Kentucky –

Secretary of State Trey Grayson and Businessman Bill Johnson, both Republican candidates for U.S. Senate issued the following response today to the claims contained in Rand Paul’s radio ad on the topic of abortion:

“There’s no ‘probably’ when it comes to the issue of partial birth abortion among Kentucky pro-life activists,” said Grayson. “Whether it’s Bill Johnson or myself, Kentuckians deserve to know who can be counted on to protect life and stand up for our conservative values in the race for U.S. Senate.”

“Rand Paul denies it now, but I’ve heard him say that he supports allowing individual states to decide the issue of abortion. He describes himself as a Constitutional conservative, but he ignores the 14th Amendment to the Constitution that guarantees our rights to life, liberty and property. Life should be protected at all levels of Government, including the Federal level,” said Bill Johnson.

While Rand Paul claims to be pro-life, he has in the past voiced support for allowing states to decide the issue and has opposed federal regulation of abortion. Rand Paul in his own words:

“But he [Paul] was more evasive when it came to some social issues like abortion and gay marriage. Middlesboro Daily News: What about instances of rape or incest or where the outcome may not be death, but severe medical problems for the mother or child. Do you think that in these cases the decision should be left to the government rather than the families? Paul: In cases of rape, trying to prevent pregnancies is obviously the best thing. The morning-after pill works successfully most of the time. Ultimately we do better if we do have better education about family planning. With partial-birth abortion, there were five women who testified that it threatened their life. It wasn’t completely true in all cases. They were non-viable babies. They were babies with awful genetic mutations that were not going to survive, and I tend to think we let nature take its course. ELKTON — The Bill Johnson for U.S. Senate campaign received the following poll results. Shamrock Polling conducted the statewide poll for an undisclosed client. Questions regarding the poll can be directed to Persistence Consulting (persistenceconsulting@gmail.com). The Johnson for U.S. Senate campaign did not pay for or participate in this poll. The results are consistent with internal polling done by the campaign.

We asked 1,257 likely republican voters the following questions:

JOHNSON WELCOMES GRAYSON TO SENATE RACE

ELKTON — U.S. Senate Candidate Bill Johnson issued the follow statement on the filing of Trey Grayson to run for U.S. Senate:

“Washington has found an establishment-friendly candidate to back in Mr. Grayson. We won’t hold his youth and lack of private sector and military experience against him. He is looking to continue his political career, and we welcome him to the Senate race.

“The race is shaping up to be a grassroots Reagan conservative versus two Goliaths. The Washington machine has chosen Grayson. Ron Paul’s libertarian movement has funded his son Rand. I will simply rely on the people of Kentucky for support.

“On Election Day, the voters will have clear choices on where to place their trust.”

Rand Paul's Astroturf
The man who claims to be the tea party candidate in Kentucky's GOP primary, is having trouble drumming up support from among the grassroots here. There are many reasons for this which I will list below. The campaign's response is to bring in "fake grassroots" from outside the state. A new astroturfing group with the Rand Paul campaign as administrator has set up shop on Facebook. In March, out-of-state Paul supporters will travel here to work for the Paul campaign in what is being billed as Rand Paul's Spring Break in Kentucky.

Why don't grassroots conservatives in Kentucky support Rand Paul?

Political Nepotism -- People are turned off by the fact that Paul is riding his father's coattails. For instance, Gun Owners of America has admitted that the fact that he is Ron Paul's son was part of their criteria for endorsement. A great many of Rand Paul's endorsements are from people and groups who have previously endorsed his father. Rand Paul does not seek to serve Kentuckians by promoting the principles we value. His intent is to promote his father's agenda. In May of 2009, Rand Paul stated (emphasis mine):

"I know that third party candidates can’t win in KY. Although I’m a Libertarian at heart, I’ve decided to run as a Republican. Once I win I’ll be able to promote my father’s principles and work towards reforming the Republican party."

Flip-Flops and Obfuscation -- He's learning that libertarianism doesn't fly here, so he offers watered down speech on abortion, refusing to back off his father's agenda on the matter, but claims to be the pro-life candidate in the race. (His father has voted 56% pro-life according to National Right to Life.) He's been accused of scrubbing his website more than once. Once in regard to the Patriot Act and again in regard to Gitmo.

Alienating the Religious Right -- The Paul campaign has said they won't be engaging with the religious right as questions have been coming about his positions on abortion, releasing drug offenders and expanding gambling.

Ambivalence about genuine racism -- The fact that he is supported by the "White Power" movement has raised, unfortunatey, few eyebrows, but when it was learned that he actually hired a racist to be his campaign coordinator, the damage was palpable.

Out-of -State Support -- The very fact that most of Paul's support has been coming from outside Kentucky is a turn-off to Kentucky voters. The more Kentucky's voters are turned off, the more reason the Paul campaign has to send in astro-turfers.

The Grayson campaign, backed by the McConnell machine, was doomed from the start, no matter how many polls he throws out saying otherwise. Read the rest here :

Bill Johnson a David against Two Goliaths

We have our future in the hands of three men running for the U.S. Senate seat here in Kentucky.

One is Bill Johnson he is a “Joe”, citizen just like you and me. He is a family man, business, Gulf war vet and a Reagan conservative Republican. He quit his full time job in the hopes of be able to make a difference not for himself, but for Kentucky and America. He is funding his campaign with his own life’s savings and donations from those that support him. He is a David among the Two Goliaths. He is a solid conservative in that believes in the Reagan principles of Government. He understands the rights of the unborn child. He is served his county in the Navy aboard a nuclear guided missile cruiser and nuclear aircraft carrier.. Bill will to go anywhere any time and answer questions on any issue and has not changed one single stand since he decided to run last summer. He is running a real in action Grassroots campaign, he has his supporters, none of which are wealthy, none of which have influence in high places. They are folks that understand what ethics and principles mean they are the true Reagan conservatives. They do not bow down to the politically correct; they do not bend when the wind blows. They stand firm on their beliefs. They have drawn a line in the sand. They are Reagan conservative Kentuckians.

Another is Trey Grayson to date Trey is our Sectary of the state of Kentucky. We hear very little from this candidate. I am giving an educated guess here but I think because he is the GOP nomination he feels he don’t have to campaign, don’t have to do press conferences; don’t have to answer questions left by potential voters like my self and three others here in my home, We do vote and we are Reagan Conservatives. If my readers remember I blogged about his supposed Town Hall meeting were I said, I left a message and they told me they would get back to me. To this date that has not happened. I suppose 4 potential votes don’t mean a thing to a man that figures he has this election already in the bag. At a fund raiser a dinner was $500.00 dollars a plate. Not a bad price to pay if you are the elite. This guy is getting millions from both the GOP and fund raisers on his behalf and don’t have to do anything for it , just show up.

Than of course there is Rand Paul son of Ron. You probably know him his is the anti-Semite, anti-government, anti- law, anarchists from Texas Congressman who ran for President. Rand is an eye surgeon from Bowling Green Kentucky although he is from Texas. “I have nothing against Texans. Some of my best friends and family members live there and so did I for 13 years”. Most Texans are wonderful people, just not Ron.

Rand is married as well and runs a very successful practice. Rand has received as of this writing around 1.5 million in donations. Mine you, most of those come from out of state. He has changed his issues pages so many times I give up trying to keep up with what is fashionable with him today. As of today he has dropped all reference to the Patriot act from his web site. He isn’t sure whether or not the Constitution protects the unborn and I could probably write a book on his flip flops. HUMM, I have to wonder why he flips and flops so much on the issues.

He seems to have created a great venue for us to spread our message to a very large ripe audience through the many meetup groups organizing across the country and through his website.

Glen Beck at one time described himself as a conservative but after 2 years of having the Paul’s both Ron and Rand on his program he apparently has changed his mind and is becoming one of them.

Just in case anyone don’t quite understand what a libertarian political view is let me educate you just a little in my own words. Libertarians want nothing to do with culture wars, think drugs and pornography should be legal, favor an isolationist foreign policy and generally believe in shrinking the government to about the size of a gnat -- all of which a real conservative finds appalling .


Rand has encircled himself with racist, libertarians and in general nut jobs. I wonder who will get thrown under the next Paul bus. Do Kentuckians really want this kind of man as our Senator? I certainly don’t!

Trey Grayson's Town Hall meeting NOT

On Monday night I took an hour of my time and listened in on a town hall meeting conference call for Trey Grayson. It was more of a laughing matter than a meeting. First,I felt most of the questions were scripted. All his answered were canned I felt like I was stuck in a loop. Later there was a young child with a vocabulary the size of a Philadelphia lawyer. I found that both amazing and amusing. His question was about Health Care as were most of them on the call. I know that question was scripted because I could hear the paper the child was reading from rattling in the phone. The entire question took around 2 minutes to complete.

Another thing I found rather strange about this so called,
"Town Hall Meeting", was that every five or six minutes they would take a poll. Polls are nice and I like them; I even take them and give my honest answer all the time However, they asked if you wanted to volunteer for the campaign or donate money and later they added , did you want a yard sign or a bumper sticker. This went all throughout the call. It was very distracting and there were only a few questions even asked for the full hour.

My take on this was it was nothing more than a recruiting effort and fund raiser for Trey Grayson.

Every answer Trey gave to the few questions that did get asked seemed very much scripted. I got on the call a few minutes before it started and was put in Que but I suppose they didn't like my two fold question , Why would I vote for you instead of the other candidates and where do you stand on illegal immigration? At the end of the call I was told to ask my question and leave my contact information and someone would get back to me .. that has not happened as of yet. If they do I will be sure to update this entry of my blog via a comment.

The entire call as far as I am concerned was a big waste of a perfectly good hour of my time. Needless, to say I will not be casting a vote for Trey Grayson. I see him as a career politician not a concerned citizen of Kentucky.
